Substance Use Assessment Services

Adolescents & Adults

FCRC of Ohio provides individualized substance use assessments to understand alcohol or drug use, its impact on health and daily life, and appropriate treatment or referral needs. We approach each assessment with respect and without judgment.

Our assessment process considers substance use history, current concerns, strengths, recovery supports, and daily functioning.

Understanding Substance Use Assessments

A substance use assessment helps clarify patterns of alcohol or drug use, related concerns, and the supports that may be helpful. An assessment does not automatically mean a substance use disorder diagnosis or a particular treatment requirement.

What to Expect During a Substance Use Assessment

The process may include an initial consultation to confirm the purpose of the assessment and any referral requirements, a clinical interview, appropriate screening tools, review of findings, and feedback with individualized recommendations.

Alcohol Use Concerns

Discuss concerns about alcohol use, patterns of use, related effects, and the supports that may be helpful.

Drug or Medication Use

Explore concerns about drug or medication use, including how use may affect health, safety, and daily life.

Effects on Daily Life

Consider effects on responsibilities, relationships, sleep, self-care, work, school, or other parts of daily functioning.

Reasons Someone May Seek a Substance Use Assessment

Recovery & Support Needs

Identify strengths, recovery supports, barriers, and recommendations for counseling or other helpful care.

Referral or Documentation Needs

What We Do

Substance Use Assessment Across the Lifespan

Understanding Your Results

We review the findings and individualized recommendations with you, including options for counseling, recovery supports, medical evaluation, or other care when appropriate. Reports are shared with appropriate authorization. If an assessment is requested by a court, employer, or another agency, confirm its acceptance and documentation requirements in advance. Assessment findings do not automatically require a diagnosis or a particular treatment recommendation.

Assessments for Adolescents

We use age-appropriate interviews and information about substance use, health, mental health, strengths, supports, and daily functioning. Caregiver involvement may be included for minors when appropriate and consistent with applicable consent and privacy requirements.

Assessments for Adults

We explore current concerns, relevant substance use and treatment history, medical and mental health history, recovery supports, strengths, and work or daily functioning.
